Finding Balance: The Power of Small, Intentional Choices
Have you ever felt like your life is totally out of balance?
As we head into the Easter Bank Holiday weekend, it might be the perfect moment to pause, reset, and ask yourself: Are you spending enough time on the things that genuinely bring you joy? Are you giving enough time to the people who matter most?
When I work with clients on creating balance in their lives, we start by looking at the areas that matter most, both personally and professionally. We then explore how satisfied they are with the time and energy they’re giving those areas. Very often, the same pattern appears: family, friends, rest, and the activities that light you up are the first to be impacted when life gets busy.
So how do we make it better?
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “How do you eat an elephant?” - One small step at a time. Creating balance is exactly the same, gentle shifts, small habits, simple changes.
I was reminded of this recently when reading Robin Sharma’s The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari. One of the core ideas in the book is that wellbeing isn’t created by dramatic change, but by intentional choices, moments of stillness, and making space for yourself. It’s a reminder that taking a break isn’t a luxury, it’s essential.
🌿 Finding Balance Through Small, Intentional Choices
One message that stuck with me is the idea that your time is your life in miniature. How you spend your hours is how you ultimately spend your life. Yet many of us fall into patterns where the urgent replaces the meaningful. Diaries fill themselves. Days become reactive, not intentional.
When clients tell me they feel overwhelmed, it’s often not because they lack time — it’s because they lack protected time. Time for rest, joy, connection, and breathing space.
Small changes can have a big impact:
Creating a morning routine that steadies you
Scheduling short breaks rather than powering through
Saying “not right now” to energy‑draining tasks
Focusing on one thing instead of ten
Taking five quiet minutes before a busy meeting or evening
These are the kinds of shifts that help life feel calmer, clearer, and more manageable.
💛 Reconnecting With What Matters Most
When people step back and look honestly at where their time goes, clarity follows. They start to see the gap between what matters and what gets attention.
Family.
Friends.
Joy.
Rest.
Passions.
Play.
These areas nourish us, yet they’re usually the first to disappear from our schedules.
As you move into the long weekend, consider:
What gives me energy?
Who do I want to spend more time with?
What have I been missing?
What would make life feel lighter?
What small shift could help me feel more balanced next week?
There’s no perfect answer, just the one that feels true to you.
🔄 The Power of the Pause
A central idea in The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari is this:
You don’t find balance by doing more. You find it by pausing long enough to choose what matters.
Time management isn’t only about productivity.
It’s about intention, alignment, and designing a life you feel connected to.
Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is stop.
Take a breath.
Take a walk.
Take a moment for yourself.
✨ A Balanced Life Begins With One Small Step
As you head into the Easter break, give yourself permission to slow down. Notice what feels good, where your energy lifts, and what you’ve been missing.
Then choose one small change to bring into the week ahead.
Balance isn’t created overnight.
It’s built choice by choice , one small step at a time.
